MTQ 2004, the Anniversary Year:
Exhibitors Praise Outstanding Visitor Quality Frickenhausen, 19 November 2004. The 10th MTQ at Westfalenhallen in Dortmund once again presented innovative technologies and the latest research results covering all aspects of material testing, measuring technology and quality assurance from the 9th through the 12th of November, 2004.
As expected, the opening celebration at this year’s MTQ exceeded even the most optimistic of speculations voiced prior to the event. Roughly 160 visitors attended the opening festivities, at which the 2004 NRW Quality Prize was awarded. Harald Schartau, Minister for Economic Affairs and Employment of North Rhine-Westphalia, paid tribute to the anniversary celebrants, and personally handed over the coveted quality prize. After the trade fair tour which followed, participants had time for intensive discussions with prominent political and economic representatives at a get-together. Private trade fair promoter Paul Eberhard Schall, who is responsible for organisation and promotion of the MTQ, spoke optimistically about the successful event: “Although visitor numbers dropped slightly this year to a total of 6744, the unanimous opinion of the exhibiting companies speaks a single language: 90% of the exhibitors are more than satisfied with the quality of visitor attributes. Concrete enquiries were received, and intensive, targeted consultation meetings were held.”
“We’re behind the MTQ all the way, as well as the venue in Dortmund which appears ideal to us”, says Reiner J. Marquart, managing director of QUIPSY QUALITY GmbH in Pforzheim, Germany. “That’s why we’re in favour of an annual event, which would anchor the MTQ in the minds of the visitors as a local event to an even greater extent. This is the only way to bring the MTQ up to the same quality level as CONTROL”, sums up Marquart.
Hans-Jürgen Oberdiek from the domestic marketing department at Carl Zeiss in Göttingen is very satisfied with this year’s event: “Off the top of my head, I’d estimate that the number of visitors who came to our booth increased by 5 to 10% in comparison with 2002. We made about 60 contacts a day, 30 of whom had concrete enquiries”.
Nor was there any doubt for Michael Flunkert, managing director of Babtec Informationssysteme GmbH in Wuppertal: “The MTQ should switch to an annual schedule. The location is perfect, and the offerings are great. We intend to support the MTQ, and above all to expand it into a brand name event for quality assurance in north-western Germany”.
Hahn + Kolb Werkzeuge GmbH from Stuttgart and TESA SA, manufacturers of measuring instruments and systems from Renens in Switzerland, made an announcement at the MTQ regarding important restructuring of the sales department for TESA products. In order to be able to better adapt themselves to European market trends, the two companies have decided to do away with the exclusivity clause which has been in force to date, and to adopt an open sales philosophy.
In addition to Hahn + Kolb’s sales network, TESA will create its own sales network with headquarters in Ludwigsburg.
Offerings presented by MTQ were rounded out with the forum in pavilion 5 which occupied 89,300 square feet of overall exhibition floor space, and which was very well attended this year. Roughly 600 experts gathered information during all 4 trade fair days regarding the industry’s latest technologies, trends and processes. More than 20 exhibitors took advantage of this additional opportunity to showcase their companies.
